November is National Novel Writing Month aka NaNoWriMo. Heard of it? Neither had I until some random google searches landed me on this page: http://www.nanowrimo.org/
So what is NaNoWriMo. Its a kick in the butt to all those people who walk around saying “they are going to write a novel” and never do. To “win”, you write 50 000 words between November 1st and 30th. It doesn’t really matter what you write, the point is to write. So…..
Of course I can’t pass up a good challenge….case in point:
Overland from Uganda to Mongolia – check
Marathon – check
Plan a wedding in 3 months – check
Write a 50 000 word novel in 1 month….check??….not so fast…..
I have an idea….and Rob is off to Afghanistan for 2 weeks tomorrow, which of course we just found out about on Monday, which means that I have ALL the time in the world to say…write a novel. I mean I could watch T.V., clean my house, or do Christmas shopping (online) when Max is napping or down for the night (which still means up every 3 hours).
And now that I’ve announced it on here, it means that I actually have to do it….or try really really really hard to do it.
I am hoping to have 50 000 words, aka the first draft, completed by November 3oth…I then plan to spend a month editing (no one said that the 50 000 words have to make any sense), and then put one chapter of the second draft up weekly starting in January for you all to judge, comment, criticize, and help me perfect my second draft…and if its REALLY bad, just tell me and I’ll stop tormenting you all with it. Oh…and January, yah, I’ll be back at work.
So…its obviously a work in process but I’ll tell you a bit about my idea.
I’m writing for a young adult audience say 12 years old…Its about a little boy named Max (bonus creative name points, I know…). Its a historical adventure with pirates and a Princess, a famous explorer/trader, a mighty empire and the Silk Road…..oh…and a magical golden passport.
Stay tuned 🙂
